As U.S. troops converged on Baghdad, Algeria's Foreign Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem stated ominously: "The question now is who will be the next to be threatened?"
"Syria now top US target for 'regime change'" concluded Toby Harnden of the London Telegraph in his April 8 report of the Belfast Summit between U.S. President George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. By May 17, Jim Lobe writing for the Iran Press Service speculated, "Is Iran the Next Target?" Ha'aretz reporter Aluf Benn left no doubt that as far as Israeli rulers were concerned both were intended targets. His April 14 report of National Security Advisor Efraim Halevy's trip to the United States was entitled: "Israel to U.S.: Now Deal with Syria and Iran."
